This chapter outlines the tasks and aircraft flight hours that crew members must complete to support the unit's METL. TC 1-210 lists the requirements for maintaining RL 1. The required performance standards are specified in Chapters 6 and 7 of this manual.
a. Semiannual Flying-Hour Requirements--Aircraft. The minimum requirements for crew members are as follows.
(1) FAC 1 -- 70 hours, all of which must be flown from the crew member's designated crew station.
(2) FAC 2 -- 50 hours, all of which must be flown from the crew member's designated crew station.
NOTE: Aviators who are not OH-58D (Kiowa Warrior) qualified or have not been qualified in the left seat per DA directives, will log all semiannual flying hours from the right seat.
(3) FAC 3 -- not applicable due to the lack of a compatible flight simulator for the OH-58D.
NOTE: Because there is no compatible simulator for the OH-58D, each aviator also must receive three hours of hood. The aviator may be required to fly additional hours of hood based on recommendations to the commander.
b. Annual Task and Iteration Requirements. The minimum requirements are--
(1) One iteration of all base tasks during the day and one iteration of mandatory NVG tasks as indicated in Figures 5-1 and 5-2. (Mandatory NVG tasks for crew members in designated NVG positions and aviators who maintain NVG currency are indicated by an X in the appropriate column of Figures 5-1 and 5-2.)
(2) An NVG standardization evaluation of all base tasks indicated by an X in the NVG column of Figures 5-1 and 5-2 for those crew members in designated NVG positions and aviators who maintain NVG currency.
(3) Any iterations of mission tasks listed in Figure 5-3 as determined by the commander.
(4) Any iterations of additional tasks as determined by the commander.
NOTE 1: In addition to the required minimum annual tasks and iterations, MPs will perform annually, a minimum of four iterations of the MTF mission tasks listed in Figure 5-4. MEs will perform two iterations from each flight crew station annually. Each MTF mission task listed is mandatory for an MTF standardization evaluation. Personnel who are required to perform MTF duties in an additional or alternate aircraft will perform four iterations of the required tasks in each additional or alternate aircraft.
NOTE 2: The requirement to perform instrument tasks in additional aircraft, in category, will be at the discretion of the commander.
NOTE 3: Tasks indicated with an X in both the S and I columns may be evaluated during either or both evaluations.
c. Currency Requirements.
(1) Aviators who are qualified in the OH-58D and the OH-58D (Kiowa Warrior) and who are current in the OH-58D (Kiowa Warrior) are also considered current in the OH-58D.
(2) Aviators who are qualified in the OH-58D and the OH-58D (Kiowa Warrior) and who are current in the OH-58D will receive a proficiency evaluation consisting of those tasks with an [I] listed in Figure 5-1 prior to being considered current in the OH-58D (Kiowa Warrior).
a. To be considered NVG current, the crew member must participate every 45 consecutive days in a one-hour flight at night in the aircraft while wearing NVG.
b. A crew member whose currency has lapsed must complete, as a minimum, a one-hour NVG proficiency evaluation given at night in the aircraft by an NVG IP or SP. Minimum tasks to be evaluated are listed in Figures 5-1 and 5-2.
Annual night unaided training is mandatory for all crew members. The following tasks will be evaluated during RL progression and a minimum of one iteration of each task will be performed annually. The commander may designate any of the following tasks for evaluation during the APART period based on crew station designation.
a. Aviator.
(1) Task 1017, Perform hovering flight.
(2) Task 1018, Perform a normal takeoff.
(3) Task 1025, Navigate by pilotage and dead reckoning.
(4) Task 1028, Perform VMC approach.
(5) Task 1083, Perform or describe inadvertent IMC procedures/VHIRP.
(6) Task 1098, Perform after-landing tasks.
b. Aeroscout Observer.
(1) Task 1025, Navigate by pilotage and dead reckoning.
(2) Task 1043, Perform MMS operations.
(3) Task 1044, Operate navigation system.
(4) Task 1045, Operate communications system.
(5) Task 1083, Perform or describe inadvertent IMC procedures/VHIRP.
(6) Task 1098, Perform after-landing tasks.
Annual NBC training is mandatory for all FAC 1 positions and those FAC 2 positions selected by the commander. Crew members must wear full MOPP gear (MOPP level 4) during NBC training. NBC training is not required for FAC 3 positions.
a. Crew members will receive NBC training in the base tasks listed below and will perform at least one iteration annually. The commander will also select mission/additional tasks based on the unit's mission.
(1) Aviator.
(a) Task 1005, Perform preflight inspection.
(b) Task 1007, Perform engine-start, run-up, hover, and before-takeoff checks.
(c) Task 1034, Perform terrain flight takeoff.
(d) Task 1035, Perform terrain flight.
(e) Task 1036, Perform hover OGE check.
(f) Task 1037, Perform NOE deceleration.
(g) Task 1038, Perform terrain flight approach.
(h) Task 1044, Operate navigation system.
(i) Task 1045, Operate communications system.
(j) Task 1098, Perform after-landing tasks.
(k) Task 1114 *, Operate 2.75-in rocket system.

(f) Task 1045, Operate communications system.
(g) Task 1098, Perform after-landing tasks.
b. While conducting NBC training, the commander will ensure that--
(1) Aircrews use extra care when performing flight duties or training in aircraft cockpits when the wet bulb globe temperature is above 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
(2) A qualified and current crew member, without protective mask, gloves, or NBC boots, is at one set of the flight controls at all times.
(3) Aircrews will not receive emergency procedures training in flight while wearing MOPP gear. (They will complete this training in static aircraft.)
(4) NBC training is coordinated closely with the local flight surgeon.
As part of the aeroscout observer's 70-hour semiannual flying-hour requirement, he must receive two hours of training in emergency aircraft handling every 90 days with an IP or SP. Emergency aircraft handling tasks are--
a. Task 1011, Perform straight-and-level flight.
b. Task 1012, Perform turns, climbs, and descents.
c. Task 1017, Perform hovering flight.
d. Task 1018, Perform a normal takeoff.
e. Task 1028, Perform VMC approach.
f. Task 1030, Perform a shallow approach to a running landing.
* NOTE: Tasks marked with an asterisk are required for Kiowa Warrior aviators. During NBC training, a minimum of two of these tasks will be accomplished.
